Anaphylaxis Workshop Saturday 1st Nov 2014

Note: The November workshop is now full, however you can register your interest for workshops in 2015.

Dr Helen Crilly will be running a College recognised Anaphylaxis Workshop at John Flynn on Saturday morning 1st November 2014. Helen, the ANZAAG Coordinator, ran a workshop at the recent ASA NSC however it was quickly booked out. To satisfy demand for an encore, Helen has graciously agreed to repeat the workshop, giving local Anaesthetists the opportunity to attend at no cost.

You are able to claim this course as an “Emergency Response” activity in your college CPD. If you were on your toes and attended the CICO activity earlier this year you could attend Helen’s workshop and satisfy all your emergency response requirements for the triennium before the end of the first year, all for free!

  • Time: 830am and 1030am (time for attendance advised by Dr Crilly once booked)
  • NB: A further opportunity to do the workshop will be available in 2015 with date TBA. If you are interested in this workshop please advise by registering and indicating you would like to attend in 2015 in the comments section
  • Cost: Nil
  • Workshop description: This 90 minute interactive workshop utilises case discussion and the anaphylaxis box to develop skill with using the ANZAAG/ANZCA Anaphylaxis management guidelines in the event of anaphylaxis emergency. Although paper-based, each participant will be required to consider their own approach to all questions. There is pre-reading required which can be found on line in the management section of the ANZAAG website – www.anzaag.com/Mgmt Resources.aspx

(Please note that this activity has been recognised as suitable to be claimed in the emergency responses category of the ANZCA CPD program. The course content has not been assessed and this recognition does not represent endorsement by ANZCA.)

Clinical Meeting Friday 12th September

Our meeting next week will be an M&M meeting involving the presentation of the clinical indicators from both hospitals and any ‘interesting’ cases that may have a message to all of us. Note the good points that pertain to attendance and presentation! Unfortunately, (at least for me), I will be attending a course and Adrian Skidmore will be chairing the meeting.

The sponsor for the meeting is Verena Griesel from Midmed, a producer of innovative consumer items for the anaesthetic environment.

Clinical Meeting, Friday 1st August.

Hi all,

In all the concentration on the CI-CO workshop, I had forgotten to send out an early notice regarding this meeting this Friday. Alison Herdman will lead a discussion on “The Art of Anaesthesia for Plastic Surgery”. Please come along and share your tips, tricks and anecdotes on the panopoly of players that make up the plastic surgery experience.

The meeting will be sponsored by Tim Brown from Lennon Healthcare who have unveiled a new analgesic formulation called Zaldiar, a paracetamol / tramadol combination.

Difficult Airway Workshop, Friday 4th July

In order to help celebrate American Independence Day, we are holding the annual Difficult Airway Workshop on Friday week. There will be 7-8 work stations with various devices and practice manikins together with the company reps. Anaesthetic staff with experience in the practicalities of using some of these devices will also be there to help with the discussion.

It will be held in the admissions area of the Pindara Hospital operating suite from 5pm to 7pm. OR attire will not be required. The format will be the same as past years with the education related more to the nursing staff between 5 and 6 and more toward doctors from 6 to 7, but come when you are able.

Staff from other areas of the hospital (ICU / ED) that deal in airway management, other hospitals, GPs and anaesthetic trainees are also encouraged to attend. Food and drink will be supplied. Please RSVP to Sharon who has been responsible for coordinating the industry reps and refreshments using the form below.

Friday Meeting 13/6/2014 Report

Thirteen of your colleagues met under a full moon on the evening of Friday the 13th of June, to discuss (of all things) Post Operative Cognitive Dysfunction. A lively debate surrounded Dennis’s excellent presentation on this very topical subject.
