Surgery After COVID

ANZCA released the updated guidelines for surgery after COVID on 17 May 2022.

Suggested wait times from the date of COVID-19 diagnosis to surgery are as follows:

  • Four weeks for non urgent minor surgery as long as the patient has returned to baseline function
  • Seven weeks for non urgent major surgery, as long as the patient has returned to baseline function.
  • If the patients is still unwell it is appropriate to delay until they improve.
  • For time sensitive surgery, the risk begins to decrease after two weeks.
